COLLECTING CLASSIFIED INFORMATION FROM IDF SOLDIERS.
The Organization of Breaking the Silence was established by a group of veterans in 2004 in order to bring to public discourse, in Israel and abroad, the "injustices of occupation" in which they took part as soldiers.
So far, the organization has gathered testimonies from approximately 1,200 soldiers and soldiers from dozens of different units, including classified special units such as the ‘SayeretMatkal’, ‘Shayetet 13’, ‘Shaldag’, special brigades units, and classified intelligence units.
During the collection of testimonies, the witnesses are thoroughly and extensively investigated regarding their military training, the deployment of forces, procedures, methods, and operational programs, classified weapons, exceptional events, and operations they participated in during their military service. The witnesses are asked to provide military information unrelated to certain events but provide a picture of the military control in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. These are areas that the organization defines as occupied, and therefore, "exposing the truth about the injustices of the occupation" is justified. Breaking the Silence (Shovrim Shtika) currently possesses an extensive military database, rich in classified information, which its operatives claim, is kept on servers abroad.
In addition to collecting testimony from soldiers doing their mandatory and reserve service, the organization sends activists to do their military service in units where they are interested in receiving testimonies and information. This is according to the personal testimony of Prima Bobis (who calls herself 'Murphy'), an activist in ‘Breaking the Silence’.
